Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

EKS day in Tanzania was celebrated with number of sports activities including Unified® soccer involving teams made up of Special Olympics athletes and teammates without intellectual disabilities.

“Athletes should be courageous and believe in themselves, athletes should be given the opportunity to speak at events and share their story, and athletes should be active in decision making in the program,” said Special Olympics Tanzania athlete Mr. Upendo Edward Masanja during an exceptional speech at Athletes Leadership Programs (ALPS) training.
A four-day training was conducted for 23 coaches from the Ilala, Kinondoni, Temeke and Coast sub-programs.
