Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

Special Olympics Ghana celebrated EKS Day in grand style at the prestigious Arknac Hotel. The event received massive coverage on National television and in other press.
During April approximately 50 health care professionals attended a training aimed at equipping them to address specific health issues experienced by people with an intellectual disability (ID).
Special Olympics Ghana (SOG) and the Three Kings School Committee held a special training at the school to address Ghana’s absence at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games. This absence had left coaches very disappointed after the hard work they had put into preparing their athletes for the games.
Special Olympics Ghana held its first National Games from 23rd to the 25th of July 2013 in Hohoe, Volta Region. A total of 257 athletes from 24 schools participated in the games. Heavy rains delayed the kickoff which eventually took place on the 24th.
Today, Special Olympics Ghana is back in the movement as a Founding Committee. Thank you Dr. John Dow Jr., for giving SO Ghana another chance.
