Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

At this year’s Special Olympics Burkina Faso Western Zone Regional Games, athletes’ smiles shone on the playing field and at Special Smiles® and Health Promotion® screenings.
Special Olympics Burkina Faso was honored to host the United States Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Dr. Tulinabo Mushingi and his Embassy staff, as well as the exciting addition of 50 young leaders from three high schools in the nation’s capital, Ouagadougou.

Since Special Olympics knows no boundaries, being abroad did not deter Dr. Edmond Gue from Burkina-Faso, from volunteering at a Healthy Athletes event.
Under the scorching heat of 33 degree sun in Ouagodougou a team from Special Olympics Burkina Faso, including leaders, family members, athletes and friends, helped to create a clean environment for persons with an intellectual disability staying at the Ark of Nongremaasson.
