Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

On 9 March, Maccabi Tel Aviv FC welcomed a Special Olympics Football Club to the Kiryat Shalom Training Facility in Tel Aviv for an unforgettable Purim Holiday activity.
The Maccabi Tel Aviv FC Foundation along with Special Olympics got together for Tu B’Shvat, the Holiday of Trees at Maon Etgar located in Kibbutz Lahavot Haviva for a unique event which featured singing, dancing & a visit by Maccabinio.
The Special Olympics Israel Snowshoeing team held Training Camp in the Hermon Mountain, at the northern region of Israel.
On January 3th, two oSpecial Olympics Israel athletes were honored for outstanding performances in 2016 with the “Israeli Sports Award".
