Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

Special Olympics Botswana marked the 29th edition of its National Games, with 450 athletes competing at Serowe College of Education in Botswana’s Central District.
At the 36th Botswana National Sports Commission Annual Sports excellence Awards night, Special Olympics scooped five awards.
Special Olympics Botswana had a unique opportunity this year to celebrate Eunice Kennedy Shriver Day in conjunction with Botswana Independence day on the 30th September.

The month of May was an exciting one for Special Olympics Botswana. Through a partnership with the Botswana Ministry of Education, Special Olympics Botswana held two regional games, one in the remote Western region and the other in the Southern region of the country.
Special Olympics Botswana, with the assistance of Sports Director Mr. Tebogo Ditlhokwa, partnered with the Ministry of Health to host an Athlete Leadership Programs (ALPs) training to educate Special Olympics athlete leaders about HIV/AIDS.
In January Special Olympics Botswana hosted an Opening Eyes screening for 32 athletes. The program reached out to the government for assistance and involvement, an invitation was extended to the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Service’s office and the Minister agreed to attend the event.
