Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

As part of the global partnership between Special Olympics and UNICEF, a national partnership agreement was recently signed in Rwanda – the first in Africa – with a focus on the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program.
Special Olympics Rwanda (SOR) and Rulindo Special School for people with an intellectual disability together celebrated EKS day by hosting a Unified® Basketball competition.
