Thinking about the future during high school? Start planning by middle school and/or high school and still plan into adulthood!
Facilitation is by a member of the Mencap early years team and by a parent co-facilitator.
The objective of this is to give learners an insight into family life when a child has a learning disability and the everyday challenges, barriers and obstacles children and families face.
It also gives insight to services across, health, voluntary and educational sectors and how to refer or access these.
Learners are briefed on their role to observe and to support the child and their family, while highlighting the need to link in with external organisations to better meet the needs of the children in their care.

4th Second-Language Learning & Disabilities Conference with keynote speaker Professor Tammy Berberi, Associate Professor of French at the University of Minnesota Morris and co-editor, with Elizabeth Hamilton and Ian Sutherland, of Words Apart? Disability and Foreign Language Learning (Yale UP, 2008).
Do you struggle to address the needs of adult students with learning disabilities? Learning disabilities can create difficulties with organization, memory, listening, reading, writing, and so many other skills that are critical for students to achieve success in the classroom. This workshop provides an overview of common learning disabilities and strategies to help learners overcome the challenges these disabilities present. Case studies will be used to help participants apply what they learn.
You have been invited to a session providing awareness to Primary Care colleagues of a pilot being undertaken with Supported living providers in your area for people with Learning Disabilities testing approaches, tools and methodologies in a bid to improve health outcomes for people with Learning Disabilities.
The Stop Look Care Project aims to improve the person’s experience of the care they receive by increasing staff confidence in identifying the signs of deterioration in health and wellbeing and take the appropriate course of action to manage it quickly. This session focuses on the particular needs of those with learning disabilities across all community settings. Evidence shows that people with learning disabilities die younger and that not identifying deterioration is a factor in that. Using the Stop Look Care booklet in your care will bring benefits to those you support and provide clear evidence to escalate the need of someone you know well to someone who may not.
