He is a strong advocate of developing effective partnerships that challenge and dismantle disabling barriers to bring about effective and lasting change to people's lives. Over the years he has supported local partnerships and working groups alongside numerous national roles that aim to break down the attitudinal, physical and societal barriers that disable people. As a founding member of the award-winning Strategic Disability Partnership he had a key role facilitating the Tackling Disability Hate Crime group. Through its influence and tenacity disability hate crime began to be more widely understood and addressed. Undoubtedly there is still a long way to go. Darryl is a keen advocate of the "social model" in that disabled people are not seen as passive receivers of a service but are actively challenging for equality working in partnership with allies.
