Established in 1988, the Carleton Disability Awareness Centre is a Carleton University Students’ Association run organization, which provides a safe space for students with or without disabilities to lounge, study, volunteer an/ or meet new friends. Our primary objective is to promote awareness of the structural and systematic barriers limiting disabled persons from full and effective participation within in society. Whether students have a visible or invisible disability, we unite and try our best to challenge the ableist attitudes and stereotypes faced by those with disabilities. Beyond our activist role on campus, we organize disability specific events on a monthly basis. Some of our events include: disability employment week, wheelchair basketball, open mic night for mental health, biweekly therapy animal visits, jokes on wheels, sex and disability and many more.

Hi Folks!
We've teamed up with The Wellness Centre and CUSA Gender and Sexuality Resource Centre to give women and non-binary students with disabilities a safe space to discuss the realities of navigating ableism and sexism, and how these experiences may differ for queer, BIPOC, visibly and invisibly disabled students.
We are ecstatic to announce that this year’s discussion will be led by Clary Chambers, Spark Clarity Founder, Inspirational Speaker and Coach. Clary is a former PMC student, CUSA Food Centre Coordinator and CarletonU alum. We highly, highly, highly recommend you check out her Facebook page Spark Clarity, website (Sparkclarity.ca), and 44sec YouTube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avUxg6v_Y4w
If you identify as a queer student you may also want to attend our second closed discussion "Queerness, Disability & Mental Health" held Wednesday, November 7th (also led by Clary).

Do you identify as a disabled woman?
CDAC will be hosting its 2nd closed discussion for disabled women!
We'll be giving participants our space at 424UC to get together, close the door and hang out! What you chat about will remain completely confidential within the space - whether it's about common challenges you face, school, things that make you smile - whatever, it's a chance to connect with other folks and build your support system. B.Sw and Carleton alumni Jen Roy will be facilitating discussion.
Participants are encouraged to submit discussion questions that they would to have heard in the space. Topics could range from mental health, relationships, challenging stigmas faced by the disabled community, or how to use community spaces to advance disability rights. All ideas are welcome and encouraged, we will attempt to facilitate them as best as possible.
Please also be aware that because it is a closed discussion group, our coordinators will not be present to ensure your privacy.
All women and non-binary folk are welcome.
If you require ASL Interpretation for this group, please email [email protected] to submit your request ASAP.
Children and service/guide dogs are also welcome.”
