Triathlon Canada, Athletics Canada and Cycling Canada will be hosting a Paralympic Talent ID Camp in collaboration with our provincial partners on December 4th & 5th, 2021. If you have any interest in Para Sport this is an excellent opportunity to experience what these three sports have to offer.
Join us at Sherbrooke University for this camp led by world-class coaching and support staff. All training venues and accommodations are available on the university campus.
Seattle Adaptive Sport, along with Seattle Parks and Recreation: Specialized Programs is hosting a large sports clinic on Saturday, June 16th at Rainier Beach Community Center. There will be multiple sports to experience from those in the Puget Sound area offering programs. The goal and purpose of this event is to bring awareness of fitness, sports and social activities available to individuals with physical disabilities, as well resources available in the area. The day will be scheduled to promote inclusion and form community with peers from around the state of Washington.
There will be many sports and recreation programs available to have a hands-on experience, as well watch athletes currently involved in these sports. You will find information about resources in your community for recreation, employment support, independent living skills, healthcare, and advocacy.
Plan to come and play for the day or take in a sport or two. The day starts at 9am and will wrap up at 4pm. Registration begins at 8am. If you can't make the whole day, there will still be plenty of activities to experience.

Paralympic Sports programs are for individuals with a permanent physical disability that prevents them from participating in sports and athletics. Physical disabilities could include amputation, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, joint damage, severe scoliosis, spina bifida, transverse myelitis, trauma brain injury, low vision/blind and other congenital or acquired conditions affecting their mobility. All participants must have the ability to follow a sequence of instruction and have adequate upper body control. Some equipment is available for loaning.

After his accident in 2004, ...it took Josh only nine months to start skiing again, after which he was unstoppable. He won silver and gold at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Paralympics respectively. In 2012, he became the first person to perform a backflip in a sit ski.
This year, 21 Ontario athletes were part of the largest Canadian team ever to be sent to a Winter Paralympics -- competing in all five sports in PyeongChang, South Korea. In total, 16 Ontario para-athletes reached the highest level of their sport by securing a spot on the Paralympic podium for Team Canada.
Team Canada won 8 gold, 4 silver and 16 bronze medals at the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Games - 28 in all.
Nicholson, the team's leader, said the Paralympians arrived in Pyeongchang ready to go. "They came here came prepared, mentally and physically, and in the best shape that they possibly could be in, to leave it all on the field of play. Everybody peaked at the right time," he said.

The small percentage of participation in para sports revealed in the commercial is also mirrored in the lack of public awareness and brand recognition for Canada's Paralympic athletes.
Did you know that Canada has a Para Soccer Team?
Canada's Para Soccer Team competes in several global competitions over a four-year cycle, including the International Federation of CP Football's biennial World Championships. Canada also strives to compete in the America's Cup, the Parapanamerican Games, and the Paralympic Games.
In past editions of the IFCPF World Championships, Canada finished 13th in 2017, 10th in 2015, 12th in 2011, 9th in 2009, 12th in 2007, and 11th in 2005. The next edition takes place in 2019.
Canada's Para Soccer Team is made up of athletes who have cerebral palsy or have had a stroke or brain injury.

Following participation in PARALYMPIAN SEARCH, participants may be selected for a local club, provincial or national development program designed to propel athletes from their developmental stages to a Paralympic podium. Additionally, all participants will receive information on how to get started in the sports of their choice.

Patrick Anderson is a Canadian legend of wheelchair basketball with three gold and one silver Paralympic medals in his trophy cabinet.
Anderson lost both legs below the knee after he was struck by a drunk driver, just days before his 10th birthday. Not long after returning home from hospital, he received a life-changing phone call from Rick Hansen that changed his life.
