This action-packed writer’s retreat for CNIB kids and teens (ages 6-19) is perfect for youth who are braille users and are interested in creative writing. Participants will enjoy fun, interactive workshops to help them develop their imaginations and creative writing skills. There will be braille-themed activities suitable for all ages and braille skills.
Kids, use your braille skills at home or school to complete fun challenges including crafts and creative writing! Register to get your package, before March 10. Complete at least one Quest by March 31 to be eligible for the prize draw! Instructions will be provided in uncontracted and contracted braille and will be mailed to you. Registration closes March 10th.

In celebration of World Braille Day, a series of online braille events is being jointly organized by Braille Literacy Canada (BLC), the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), CNIB, the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), and the Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI).
World Braille Day, celebrated since 2019, is observed to raise awareness of the importance of Braille as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and partially sighted people.
In celebration of World Braille Day, a series of online braille events is being jointly organized by Braille Literacy Canada (BLC), the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), CNIB, the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), and the Provincial Resource Centre for the Visually Impaired (PRCVI).
This event will begin with a live reading of a print-braille book. We will then explore strategies for libraries to create inclusive programs such as storytime, story boxes or literature kits, STEAM programming, makerspaces, 3D printing, games, and accessible book clubs. A live demonstration of a refreshable braille display will be followed by a discussion of which digital content in your library can be accessed using this type of assistive technology. Information on how libraries and braille users can access braille resources from services such as CELA, NNELS, and BAnQ, as well as a question-and-answer period, will conclude the event.
Join our Accessible Audio Book Club! All books are chosen are available through CELA in large print, audio, and braille. This group meets via at the Ross King library on the fourth Thursday of every month from 7 to 8 p.m. Newfoundland Time.
This course is part of a series of three integrated courses designed to investigate the uses of electronic technologies in delivering braille instruction. For participants involved or interested in an academic program for preparing Master Special Education Teachers of students with visual impairments, this is one of five core competency courses required to develop competencies needed for teaching children with visual impairments.
The goal of this on-line instructional workshop is to introduce participants to the technologies, techniques, and tools of braille writing and transcribing. This course is designed to present students with detailed instruction on braille, coupled with laboratory activities designed to evaluate new knowledge and skills. The course is designed as a 12-session program covering a wide variety of topics.
