Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders 101: Assessment, Diagnosis, Treatment
Friday, July 23, 2021 at 1 PM - 4 PM EDT

Learning Objectives:

• Gain a basic understanding of the spectrum of mood and anxiety disorders experienced in pregnancy and the postpartum period.

• Learn the appropriate diagnostic tools for PMADs

• Differentiate the necessary treatment modalities for PMADs based on diagnosis, social factors, and safety.

Summary:

While we as clinicians are often taught a basic understanding of Postpartum Depression, our education leaves out a breadth of challenges experienced by people during and after pregnancy. This course will review the newer, more accurate, terminology – Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs). PMADs include but are not limited to Perinatal Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, OCD, and Psychosis. We will also go over each of these disorders from likely onset to presenting symptoms and treatment protocol. By the end of the course, you should feel confident in using screening tools, advocating for your perinatal clients amongst your interdisciplinary team, and know how to stay abreast of the latest research in treating PMADs in inpatient and outpatient settings.
