People First members pick up your name tag and ballots for the election.

6:00 p.m. People First of Ohio Annual Meeting

The Nominating Committee will present a slate of recommended Officers and Regional Representatives. Nominations will then be accepted from the floor.

Election & Results

8:00 p.m. DANCE!!!! - DJ provided by Bob Casey

Snacks will be provided but make sure you eat dinner before the meeting starts. Dinner is on your own.

7:00 – 9:00 a.m. Breakfast Buffet

Breakfast is included with your registration for members of People First, Advisors and Support Staff. Check out of the hotel. A changing room will be available during the day for those who need it.

9:30 a.m. Installation of the New Board

8:00 – 10:00 a.m. Registration Open

10:00 a.m. State of the State – John Martin, Director – Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities There are only six (6) months left before we have a new Governor and new Director. Where have we been and what do we have left to do?

11:00 a.m. Speak Up / Stay Safe – Olivia Caldeira, Ph.D.

People with disabilities are much more likely to be the victims of crime than a person without a disability. Dr. Caldeira will discuss why and how it is important to speak up and stay safe.

Noon Lunch – (Lunch is included in your registration.)

Breakouts

1:00 p.m. A. DODD Waiver Update - Lori Horvath, Deputy Director of Medicaid Services, Ohio Dept of Developmental Disabilities. Change seems to be a way of life with our Waivers as we move toward a More self determined approach to supports. Lori will discuss recent changes including Nursing updates, Participant Directed Goods/Services and the Waiting List.

B. Employment First – Stacy Collins, Ohio Department of DD What does Employment First really mean? Many people have always thought they had a job at the county workshop. Stacy will discuss this and the move away from county board operated services.

2:00 p.m. A. Family Choice – Joshua Cook, Associate Director, The Arc of Ohio With 50% turnover of traditional agency staff and difficulty finding a staff person who understands specific family dynamics, The Arc has created a Waiver program which allows families to choose and schedule their own staff. This is a statewide initiative available for individuals on the Level 1, Individual Options and SELF Waivers.

B. Tips for a Successful Advocacy Group – John Hannah, Past President of People First and The Arc of Ohio, Kraig Walker, People First Coordinator, Kathy Rader, People First Advisor. People First and The Arc provide a chance to support one another in a common mission, but it is more than a support group and a time to have fun. As advocates, we must learn to work together and change the world for the better. This session will provide tips on how to organize and move forward.
