The Audacious Aspie Continues To Ride On The New Tracks!

As we continue to go careening off our usual route and onto the new one, we’ll look at Learning disabilities some more. At least at this speed, we won't have to worry about raiders or zombies, intelligent or otherwise (and yes, there is a book with intelligent zombies. Quite good to). Hold on to your seatbelts, each other, or anything else that is either sturdy enough to keep you on the train or can sacrifice for your own survival, ‘cause we ain't stoppin until we reach a station that looks aesthetically pleasing to me. And I am very, very picky.

Look into my black, soulless eyes and ask me if we’re going to stop soon. Buckle up buttercup, you're in it for the long haul.

To continue on from the last post, LD, according to idac (pronounced I-dac, as in idac know why they thought it was a word, or what they expected it to sound like) also has an information processing affect (or I assume it does, the names of “Types of LDs”, graph one, and “Information Processing Disorders”, graph 2, don’t convey much difference. At least with Other Related Disorders you know the disorders are separate) like Auditory Processing disorder., that affects a person’s ability to interpret verbal information, i.e not knowing when a speaker will end a sentence.

But, moving on, let us now take a look at some of the resources available for those of us with LD: thankfully, ldao (learning disabilities association of Ontario), taking their cue from idac in having their initials appear lowercase thus trying to look like a word, to get us started. First up: IEP 101, a course that helps both parents and students write up an IEP (http://www.ldao.ca/ldao-services/workshops-courses/iep-101-online-workshop-for-parents-and-students/). A three part series titled “Setting Up Your Child for Success” (paragraph one), is another self-paced online worshop designed to help both the parents and the child in school.

A further workshop (they love their workshops don't they?), again a self-paced online workshop, which was made to “help meet the needs and time commitments of busy professional people” (paragraph one). I was about to type parents and complete what appeared to be a recurring theme, but they went ahead and made a slight change. It's like I said in another post: don't throw off the emperors grove. As if they could not get enough of work shops, here's ANOTHER another one: Self Advocacy for Youths (SAY. Hey! A legit word!) it's a self...will, you know, that teaches youth on how to advocate for themselves. Quite an important one, we can all agree.

It's like a workshop conspiracy, each workshop leading into the next! What are they trying to teach our children? Where does it all lead? When will it all end!

Well, that was certainly a lot of workshops, If I were a crazy person, i’d say it was a conspiracy! (fortunately I remembered to take my meds on the day of writing this. Wait...oh no) you can copy and paste the link to see what else idao holds ($10 says more workshops). We’ll look into another site for resources next post, for variety. Until next time, this has been the Audacious Aspie (and there will be a next time, there will always be a next time. ((chuckle)).
