Mental Health Approaches to Intellectual/Developmental Disability

Four modules featured in this training include:


o What is Dual Diagnosis? The nature of mental health disorders among persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities including an overview of diagnoses of intellectual/developmental disabilities.


o Signs and Symptoms of Mental Illness: Diagnosis of depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, personality disorders and psychosis with an emphasis on the importance of observation and behavioral equivalence.


o Support Strategies: Verbal, behavioral and environmental intervention support strategies for persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.


o Inter-Systems Collaboration: Community collaboration and coordination strategies and resources for supporting and treating persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

 

Presenters will be Jennifer Wilson, LMSW of COMCARE and Sherry Biddle of LifeShare

 

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

 

Sedgwick County COMCARE Adult Services is located on East Harry, just west of Big Lots. There is parking in the front parking lot in front of the COMCARE Adult Services building. This training is offered at no cost to participants. Participant workbooks will be provided. A certificate of attendance for 6.0 hours will be provided for those completing the training. Grant funding limits participation to providers in Sedgwick County. No meals are included.
