Social Role Valorization (SRV) is a concept for addressing the plight of societally devalued people, and for structuring human services. SRV grew out of Dr. Wolf Wolfensberger's work, which has significantly shaped Do For One's approach to relationship-building.

SRV concepts can be implemented in one-to-one Do For One relationships. One key principle of SRV is that positive changes are accomplished by creating and supporting valued social roles for those with disabilities (Osburn, 2006). This is due to the fact that people who hold valued social roles are much more likely to experience ordinary benefits in life such as respect, a sense of belonging, and the growth of their capacities.
This series is for the participant unfamiliar with SRV, and who wants to know what it is about and how to utilize some of its important concepts.
There will be writing assignments for reflection between sessions. This course will be led by Jo Massarelli, Director of the SRV Implementation Project.
