Under the Baobab — Student Edition: Managing Mental Health

Sunday, June 27, 2021 at 12 PM - 2 PM EDT

Students of Afro descent come from across the world and have different lived experiences. We come together to share resources and methods on how to talk and deal with mental health challenges. Afro Students networks and associations are actively trying to help their members prior to Covid-19 and even more so during. At Omek we want to enhance this and give voice to the challenges that Afro students face that may go unnoticed in academic institutions.

Under the Baobab: Afro Student Edition invites representatives and members from some of the major Afro student associations in the Netherlands and across Europe to come together and share their visions and ideas for future mental health strategies.

The discussions will revolve around the question: Has your mental health been affected over the course of the last 18 months? What strategies/resources have you used to overcome your challenges

Agenda

  • Opening remarks by Omek
  • Opening remarks by representatives of some of the different Afro Student networks and a Mental health professional.
  • Breakout Sessions: in smaller groups, students from different universities exchange on the Black student experience and how it can look like in the future
  • Plenary Discussion: recap of key points discussed in the breakout rooms and introduction to future events as part of Omek's student programs.
