Transition to Middle School for Youth with Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities

This program is designed for youth entering middle school Fall 2017. This series of four classes will include the following:

• Social stories to help the student prepare for the change
• Practice using a backpack
• Practice changing classes through simulation at the ASK center
• Identifying important areas: bathroom, homeroom, quiet space, etc.
• Practice using a locker
• Understanding school rules
• Practice requesting a break
• Staying organized with school papers

A questionnaire will be sent out prior to the class seeking information about your child's level of mastery for these self-help topics. Children in this class must have a functional communication method.

This program will include 4 classes on the following dates:

• Thursday June 22, 1pm - 2:30pm
• Thursday June 29, 1pm-2:30pm
• Thursday July 13, 1pm-2:30pm
• Thursday July 20, 1pm-2:30pm

Registration ends June 1st and is nonrefundable after June 5th.

Instruction for this course included background checked teachers from the PEER Academy with certification in special education and ABA.
