Angela Goens MS, RDN, LD

Registered & Licensed Dietitian

Community Health & Activism Online Development Programs Co-Director

My entire career has been dedicated to working within the eating disorders and mental health fields. After working in these fields for a few years, I decided to complete advanced education in counseling to better understand how trauma can affect the body and brain of individuals who struggle with disordered eating patterns. Working in various levels of eating disorder treatment has given me great exposure to the entire continuum of care. It has also provided me great opportunities to be part of some very collaborative, interdisciplinary teams. Experience includes, program development, facilitating support groups, motivational interviewing, individual counseling, mentoring, meal support, conducting training and education, as well as providing supervision.

Human beings can use disordered behaviors with food, as one way to cope with stressors and navigate life. My goal is to help clients explore and restore a mindful relationship with food. I do this with years of experience, education and understanding, by using a whole-person, weight inclusive, body positive lens. Some areas of interest and training include eating disorders, diabetes, disordered eating, chemical dependency, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), weight inclusive/body positive/HAES approaches and Intuitive Eating. I encourage people of all identities to seek care with any challenges they may be struggling with around food, and intentionally invite individuals who identify as BIPOC to reach out for any support needed.

It is an aspiration for Angela in the nutrition field, to challenge the stigma of eating disorders for non-stereotypical Black and Brown bodied individuals. Angela desires to be a part of creating awareness and taking an active role in offering education, support, and treatment for people of color, whose experiences have been dismissed or overlooked.
