Ottawa Para Active Run and Cycle Training Camp and Guide Clinic Poster

Ottawa Para Active is a local coalition of groups that operate in the Para community, advancing opportunities for sport and recreation. There is a strong community in Ottawa of Blind and Visually Impaired athletes and their guides, with a number of established clubs that support and promote training and racing. Ottawa Para Active acts to connect these groups and to build strength through common goals.

Ottawa Para Active is hosting a training camp for both para athletes, and sighted athletes who are interested in guiding para athletes. The training camp will focus on skills and techniques for running with a guide, and for tandem cycling. Previous experience is not a necessity and we welcome any individuals who are interested in finding out more about the community, running, and cycling.

This camp focuses on both technical skills and the dynamics between the athlete and the guide. For para athletes (or individuals who have interest in becoming one), it is not necessary to have experience in either running or tandem cycling – the camp is intended to provide a safe space to learn and refine. For sighted athletes who want to learn about guiding, this camp provides the opportunity to test things out. There will be both seasoned athletes and guides on hand to provide hands on training as well as tandems to practice riding.
