RIAS Inclusive Design Seminar 2021

Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 8 AM - 11:15 AM EDT

For everyone to be involved in the social life of a community and contribute to the local economy, we need management and building design that provides for the varied user requirements of the public at large. In terms of our human rights, we should be enabled to be as independent as possible, allowing us to participate equally in social and economic activities. Disability covers impaired mobility, sight and hearing as well as learning disabilities and dementia. In addition, there are those who experience issues which may limit mobility such as broken limbs, pushing prams, carrying heavy loads, managing babies and small children and pregnancy. The increase in numbers of older people, of whom most will experience disability of some form, needs to be understood and accommodated. The aim of inclusive design is to produce external spaces, buildings, interiors and products that embrace the widest range of identified user groups.
