This CPD will use extracts from a recent production as a stimulus and starting point to share inclusive techniques for Teachers to creatively and inclusively challenge discrimination and prejudice within the classroom.

The session will be led by Liselle Terret from Not Your Circus Dog collective in partnership with the University of East London.

Not Your Circus Dog Collective (NYCDC) consists of learning disabled and neurodivergent performance artists.

NYCDC makes, performs, produces, teaches, lectures & writes about how to make political, ethical, subversive punk crip queer theatre.

Their recent production NFS! in partnership with Access All Areas (http://www.accessallareastheatre.org) and was staged at Soho Theatre, London Oct/Nov 2019.

NFS! is a Crip Queer Theatre-Cabaret, using testimonial theatre, cabaret, lip-syncing, parodying tv game shows & dance to expose discriminatory taboos surrounding learning disability, sexuality & disability hate crime. https://disabilityarts.online/magazine/opinion/learning-disability-arts-and-activism-the-rising-tide-of-art-challenging-stereotypes/

NFS! was made through Emancipatory Disability-Research (2001, Barnes) and by Kafer’s Political-Relational Model of Disability (2013) which we will share with colleagues, as an exciting, and relevant model for working creatively with young people.
