The Edmonton Zone Occupational Therapy Practice Council is pleased to present a two-half-day event that offers Occupational Therapists the unique opportunity to explore the impact of the history of health care and societal perceptions of disability on our current practices today and how we can move forward into the future.
Historically, disability has been understood as a medicalized condition in need of intervention or “fixing” within the health and rehabilitation professions. What if we thought about dis/ability as a social and relational experience that is generative and desirable? Drawing from Critical Disability Studies, Mad Studies and other related fields, participants will rethink “disability” as it is currently understood in rehabilitation in order to re-envision OT practice.
