Neurodisability training for early years professionals

Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10 AM - 1 PM BST

Sheffield Parent Carer Forum, in partnership with Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group, have been commissioned by Health Education England to develop and deliver training for early years professionals to improve knowledge and understanding around neurodisability (Autism, ADHD, developmental delay).

The training aims to raise awareness of early signs of neurodevelopmental conditions and will help staff feel more confident about discussing any concerns with parents, enable them to make timely referrals and improve knowledge of support services that they can signpost families to.

The training is driven by parent carer experience and content has been co-produced by parent carers and professionals from early years sectors. It will be delivered by parent trainers and health and Early Years specialists from the Local Authority.

Training content includes:

  • Using a common language
  • Gathering information to support a referral
  • Referral pathways
  • Assessment process
  • Signposting
  • Advice on how to support families before / during / after referral / diagnosis process
  • Support for Early Years settings
  • Working together with other services
  • Building relationships with parent carers

The training is open to all professionals who work in the early years sector in Sheffield (health, care and education).

Sessions will be delivered via Zoom – more details and joining info will be circulated prior to the event.
