Navigating School District Services - For Children with Special Needs

This workshop is intended for parents who have children with any type of special needs or suspected special needs. It is also catered for providers who work with special needs children. Join us to learn how and when a child may qualify for a 504 plan (accommodations and modifications) or an Individualized Education Program (IEP). We will focus on understanding changes in the laws, delivery of services, and caretaker rights.

We'll cover these important topics:

• Understanding your rights under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), what should happen in the assessment process, and how to become eligible.
• Discover the variety of services a school district can provide and how to maximize inclusion opportunities.
• Hear tips about how to develop a collaborative, effective relationship with the school district.
• Learn what recourse you can take when caretakers and the school district don't agree about the assessment and services offered.
