This conference intends to begin a conversation on the intersection of migration and the lives and rights of those with disabilities. As immigration and disability lawyers and activists, we recognize that the challenges faced by migrants with disabilities are real and substantial, but we also recognize the limits of our own knowledge and understanding. By bringing together experts from the fields of migration and disability, we aim to identify and analyze those challenges with the goal of developing information and resources that would be useful to asylum seekers with disabilities and their legal advocates. Looking forward, we hope to form a coalition to produce recommendations for policy makers to ensure that asylum, as well as other rights-based and humanitarian pathways, are protected and expanded for migrants with disabilities.
