The Youth Arts Consultants (YACs) are a group of young disabled artists who have been trained by Birds of Paradise Theatre Company to provide accessibility consultancy to the sector to improve the accessibility for disabled people engaging in arts activities.
In this session, the YACs will give provocations and share real examples of barriers they have experienced when trying to engage in activities, be they physical barriers or attitudinal barriers. We'll explore how the sector can improve its provision for participants with disabilities, with direct examples from young people who have faced these barriers.
You will receive practical tips for working with young people in an accessible way (including what to ask for when sending out Access Requirements Forms), and consider how to work with your young people to create an individual access statement to allow them to thrive in the youth theatre environment.
The YTAS Learning and Engagement programme is supported by funding from the Youth Arts Emergency Fund and the Gannochy Trust.
