Let's Talk Disability & Mental Health with Tiffany Yu & Jessica Lin

Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 5 PM - 6 PM EST

Mental health is often left out of the disability conversation. In reality, mental illness is the leading cause of disability worldwide, affecting 264 million people. Mental health conditions are also a common byproduct of living with other forms of disability.

At the age of 9, Tiffany Yu permanently paralyzed one of her arms in a car accident. She would much later be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

In elementary school, Jessica suffered from violent nightmares, sleep talking, & sleepwalking. Later on, she became a survivor of sexual assault & domestic abuse. She has been diagnosed with depression, anxiety, PTSD, BPD, arrhythmia, plantar fasciitis, chronic bronchitis, scoliosis, asthma, IBS, & more. She has been legally blind since the 2nd grade and overcoming suicidal ideation since the 4th grade.

A champion of self-care and community care, Jessica has dedicated over a decade to talk therapy, yoga, and art. She is a certified yoga teacher with an emphasis on body positivity, mental health, and decolonization. Her small business, Beyond the Body, is a safe space for clients and students all over the globe who wish to pursue healing, art, & community.

In this fireside chat, we’ll explore the intersections of disability, mental health, wellness, and healing.

Transparency about pricing: It is imperative that people, especially BIWOC, are paid fairly for their labor. Yet we also acknowledge the importance of financial accessibility. Thus, we’re offering sliding scale fees. This means we invite folks who are struggling financially to pay less (as little as $1) and those on the other end to pay more. This is a type of community care. Please contribute more if you can.

By participating, you agree to be added to the email newsletter. You understand the risk of taking part and indemnify both speakers from any and all liability.

Attendees may keep their videos off for privacy or comfort, and are free to leave at any time. We will use google meet for accessibility, as it offers closed captioning (CC). All sessions will be in English. Please email [email protected] for other accessibility needs and/or questions .
