This one-day conference, planned in collaboration with King County Developmental Disabilities Board members, is designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families who seek creative options in planning to meet the housing needs of the adult individual with a disability.

This conference highlights Keynote Speakers Claudia Balducci, King County Council member, and Ed Holen, Executive Director of the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council, as well as 20 workshops across 5 "Tracks" so that everyone can find information they need.

General Admission Workshop Sessions include:

  • General overview of affordable housing including Section 8 Vouchers
  • Special Needs Trusts, Wills, Guardianship, and other legal and financial considerations
  • Social Security rules and regulations as they apply to housing
  • Understanding the different housing "models" and selecting the right fit. Models include Adult Family Homes, Shared Housing, Supported Living, buying your own home, and more.
  • Finding, Hiring, and Maintaining a live-in care provider
  • Ways to engage with local, county, and state advocacy to promote housing options for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Specialized sessions created for and lead by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are also included in this conference. These sessions are for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are ready to move out. Topics include recognizing your hopes and dreams, being your own self-advocate, and more. Registration is requried for the Self-Advocate Track, due to limited space.Personal care services, supervision, and support is NOT provided.

Over 20 community organizations will have Resource Tables at this event including organizations that provide residential services, options for low income subsidies and support, government services, transportation, and more!

Lunch and light refreshments throughout the day are included with registration.

Attendees will have time to network with other families to expore opportunities for collaboration or shared advocacy from 3:00-4:30pm.

Language interpreters are available. Please indicate if you need an interpreter and in what language when registering. We require all requests for interpreters be submitted no later than March 1, 2018.
