Interprofessional Course in Developmental Disabilities

Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 7:30 AM EST

FREE CONFERENCE FOR: community pediatricians, family physicians, pediatric and family nurse practitioners, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, special education teachers, school administrators, audiologists, social workers, and clinical and developmental psychologists.

OFFERED BY: Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) and University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) programs at the University of Tennessee Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities

BACKGROUND: Twenty-five percent of outpatient pediatric visits are for devel-opmental or behavioral concerns. For example, 1 in 68 children have an autism spectrum disorder and up to 17 percent of children have a developmental disability or behavior concern. Although developmental disabilities are common, the needs of these children can be complex.

This conference will use an interprofessional approach to identifying and managing developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, and behavior problems. We will also discuss the causes for intellectual and developmental disabilities, including congenital Zika. Patient- and family-centered care and web-based resources will be emphasized.

CME credits are available for physicians.

CME CREDIT: The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 8 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
