Integrated audio description
Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 5 AM - 12:30 PM EDT

In this one day class we will explore what it means to integrate audio description into performance. If you are completely new to audio description, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. We will start with a whistle stop tour through disability awareness and disability justice, then we will talk through different methods of audio descriptions. Finally, we will give you ample space to start exploring how to make audio description a creative tool that is integral to your work.

This session will be practical, so please come with willingness to move, play and try new things. You may also want to have a way of taking notes (pen and paper, recorder, computer, etc.) nearby to hold any ideas, questions or discoveries.

The class will be on Zoom and be taught by experienced trainer, published academic and actual blind quip Amelia Lander-Cavallo (Tito Bone), co-facilitated by Al Lander-Cavallo.

️Before the course we will send some light homework, so please keep a nose on your email in the lead up to the class.

Who it's for

Performance practitioners of all sorts, including directors and writers. This is a class specifically for people in the LGBTQQIA+ and Queer community and allies who are interested in making their work more accessible for blind and visually impaired people (i.e. online and live drag shows, cabaret, community meetings, zooms etc.)

* If you are a queer ally and/or non-disabled please consider purchasing an individual or ally/supporter ticket so we can keep providing this service at low cost to the queer disabled community. Thank you

There are a limited number of low income tickets available, and they will be released in stages.

This class is not appropriate for big budget productions such as film and TV - please reach out to Quiplash directly at [email protected] if you'd like to work with us.

Image description: Bold white text on a purple background says "integrated audio description  Teacher: Amelia Lander-Cavallo (AKA Tito Bone)". Under the word description is a performing arts emoji with the smiling and crying mask with the words "for performers" in pink and white. Between all of this is a split image of the progressive pride flag and the symbol for audio description (AD). This progressive pride flag is the standard rainbow flag which is interrupted by brown, black, blue, white and pink stripes that are in the upper left corner. The AD symbol is the letters AD in white over a black background with three curved lines next to it, signalling a sound wave.
