  • AD stands for 'Alzheimer's Disease'
    • A progressive, degenerative disorder
  • ADNP stands for 'Activity-dependent neuroprotective protein' and is frequently mutated in:
    • Children with autism spectrum, and
    • Older adults who have AD
  • SKIP stands for, 'four-amino-acid peptide ADNP-replacement therapy'
  • New research highlights the neuroprotective potential of SKIP therapy which when administered:
    • Accelerated microtubular function
    • Increased, repaired and normalized blocked nerve-cell transport
    • Behaved like the ADNP-intact mice
  • Findings also suggest, that in male mice are much slower in the movement of transported material through nerve cells
  • Significance:
    • Therapeutics can be optimized to treat both autism and AD
    • Clinicians should consider gender-significance when treating
