Good Samaritan School for the Deaf & The Kitengeesa Community

Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 6 AM - 7 AM GMT

Good Samaritan School for the Deaf (GSSD) was established in 1996 by Mr. & Mrs. Nsamba Scovia out of their own house to provide a home and a school for Deaf and disabled children from the neighborhood without any monetary compensation or cost from their families. Over the years, the school has taught over 1,000 students and currently accommodates over 105 who are pursuing nursery, primary and vocational education. Kitengeesa is a small trading centre located southwest of Kampala near Lake Victoria, about 8Km form Masaka city. Its a home for the renowned Kitengeesa Community Library that received International attention in October 2010 when Mike Wooldridge did a special report on it for BBC News. The library is one mile away from GSSD and the trading centre. Many people and children from all the schools around access the library and it has had over 300 International Student visitors/ volunteers who have worked and stayed in the community since its foundation in 1999. The community is also a home for Afri-Pads foundation & factory that employs over 2,000 women and youth from the community in making reusable sanitary pads for teenage girls and women. There are several beautiful sceneries on hilltops, forests, natural water sources, cultural and many other adventurous things. Join us on this tour as we learn more about the Deaf school, the community library, Afri-pads, and the whole community at large. This tour will be guided in International Signs as well as in English!
