Gambling and Gaming Disorders and the Youth Factor

Friday, August 13, 2021 at 1 PM - 2:30 PM EDT

The South Central Kansas Problem Gambling Task Force is excited to have Ted Hartwell as the keynote speaker for this presentation. Mr. Hartwell is a 30-year member of the research faculty of the Desert Research Institute in Las Vegas. Currently, he is the Principle Investigator of a research study that is examining the impact of problem gambling in Indian Country in Nevada.

He is a problem gambler in long-term recovery, and consults to the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling to advocate for awareness, prevention, and quality treatment of problem gambling. He also serves as a consultant to the gaming industry in the areas of problem gambling and responsible gaming.

In 2014 he was the recipient of the prestigious Shannon L. Bybee Award presented by the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling for his dedication to education, research and advocacy on the issue of problem gambling.

Recently, Mr. Hartwell has developed a gambling awareness module designed for high school athletes who hope to play at the collegiate level, and one for student-gamers and their parents discussing video game disorder. His presentation will bring attention to the major impact that problem gambling and gaming can have on the youth in our communities.
