My First Opinion Piece (Poli Pundint Training, Day 1)

Welcome back to the Audacious Aspie! Today is the start of a new segment in the blog, of which I have no name for as of yet but I will figure that out! One day. Anyways, it may seem like I am getting a little off topic considering how the last one was about the relationship between ADHD and autism/aspergers but, rest assured, I will return to the topic in due time. In the meantime, please enjoy my take on the topic of: is everyone even a little autistic.

Are we all a little autistic? In my view, if that were the case than the whole “mac living in an apple world”, or whatever lesser-known-thing-living-in-a-greater-known-things-world euphemism you want to use (like vinyl living in a digital world) would not seem as accurate as it currently does today. Infact, I dont think it would even exist. It would be more like “a mac living in a world varying in degrees of mac”. Just does not have the same ring to it.

One is a phrase of protest, how unnecessarily un-even the world is. The other is just a phrase a bored person would come up with: “I’m like, a mac living in a world full of macs!” “uh huh, and the sky is blue”.

Than we come to the whole “cure autism” bit, would such a, misguided at best, hateful and destructive at worst, movement exist in such a world? Or at least one that has gained as much influence as this one had in past years? I don't think so. To be sure that one might still exist, but it would a fringe group, like that third wheel political party in your country: the one that screams, wails and makes all kind of noise but no one takes them seriously, let alone give them the chance at some real power. Or think of it like this: are you the oldest, or second oldest of three siblings? They would be like the third sibling. Or if you’re the third sibling, then you know already.

Or what about media stereotypes? The ones we most often see and hear about in horror (or that show that took a lot of flak last year: Atypical. Or as its critics call it: Atypical show that misrepresents Autism/Aspergers, Again). If everyone where a little bit autistic, the person who suggested such a stereotyped character would be viewed as someone who is, will, not exactly the nicest person on the block. It would not make sense to insult a major portion of the population business, or morally, wise. Especially so if Literally everyone on the planet shared one trait or another with everyone else.

That's why minorities, visible and otherwise, want to see more representation in politics and heads of media: the more faces of the purported stereotype you see in real life, the less that stereotype will appear on the screen or be repeated by officials (and the more they will appear on fringe far right or left political organizations. But hey, they gotta get their content somewhere right? Let's be honest: do you really expect them to be intelligent/industrious enough to come up with their own content?)

Will, that does it for this weeks post. Again sorry for the sudden change in topic, but if I wanna get a job as a political “expert”, I’ll need to learn how to suddenly ignore questions and side track the discussion to another subject until my masters tell me what to say later on. Gotta follow the talking points man! Until than, this continues to be, the Audacious Aspie.
