Improving Cooperation 1: Strategies to Promote Motivation with Difficult Cases
Motivating children with autism and other developmental difficulties to play and engage with others is an essential prerequisite to most therapeutic and educational goals and is often difficult. This lunchtime workshop provides methods for capturing subtle and fleeting interest to establish and promote cooperation for toy play and interactive activities. Strategies and procedures for encouraging cooperation and persistence so that toys can be used to teach communication, motor skill, and/or social interaction will be illustrated through video examples. Leave inspired with ideas to improve your next sessions with the most challenging clients.
Participants who attend this presentation will be able to:
1. Provide three strategies from the field of ABA that can be used to establish additional toys as reinforcers
2. Describe two strategies from the field of ABA that can be used to systematically increase the number of skills that can be taught during play
