|Disability, Access, Equity & Education: Creating Welcoming Communities
August 26, 2019
Join us at St. Francis Xavier University (St.F.X.) on August 26th-27th for a two-day gathering that explores questions of disability, access, equity and education from diverse perspectives. St.F.X. is located in Mi’kma’ki,the unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People.
The main goals of this gathering are to share knowledge, inspire curiosity, and develop meaningful relationships among people and groups in the interest of creating and sustaining equitable and welcoming communities.
The program includes activities designed to stimulate conversation and creative approaches to disability and difference in university, education, work and community settings. Conversations will encourage consideration of disability in all its diversity, and will be guided by invited leaders from across the Atlantic region and Central and Western Canada. This will provide a foundation for a network connecting universities, organizations and communities.
This event is free of charge and open to everyone. Day 1 will close with a networking dinner at the Social Enterprise and Convention Centre, 75 St. Ninian Street, Antigonish.
Accessibility: Mics will be used and CART will be provided. All activities will be in one building that is designated as scent-free and has barrier-free and single stall washrooms and a quiet space on site. Parking is included and adjacent to the building. Please let us know of any information or questions about access and accommodation by emailing: AtlanticIntersectionalDS[at]gmail.com.
