Dreams For Kids DC x Edge Ed: Vocab Lab
Edge Ed is partnering with DFKDC to provide engaging, interactive academic content for students of all abilities. Our first series, Vocab Lab, meets virtually every Thursday from 1 - 2PM EST. Vocab Lab is a vocabulary development program featuring the World-Famous Clever Connections vocabulary building program. Clever Connections is a unique program featuring crucial high-level vocabulary words, each paired with a Connection that incorporates one or more powerful memory aides: rhyme, alliteration, syllabication, or mental imagery—often with a dose of PG-13 humor:
rhyme… facilitate – no need to wait
syllabication… imperturbable – not disturbable
alliteration… enmity – enemy
humor… apathy – you don’t give a crapathy
Clever Connections are organized around opposing concepts in sets of ten; five good words are contrasted with five bad words; five smart words are set next to five dumb words. This construction takes advantage of the natural association patterns that humans use to learn language. Vocab Lab includes plenty of audience participation, so students stay highly engaged throughout. The classes are cooperative and fun!

About Dreams For Kids DC:
Dreams For Kids DC provides life-changing activities that empower children with physical and developmental disabilities to unite with their peers and realize their potential. DFKDC events are adaptive sports clinics held once or twice a month for children with disabilities aged 4 – 24. Through our events, those with physical and developmental disabilities are able to come off the sidelines and unite with their peers. A lot of these children have been bullied in schools, and are left out of activities with able-bodied children. The empowerment and self confidence gained through the clinic will carry over from the field to the home, classroom, and the community, allowing them to realize that their disability will not prevent them from fulfilling their dreams. Each child is partnered with a volunteer to learn the essence of teamwork, have a mentor, and also bond over a sense of camaraderie. Learn more at dreamsforkidsdc.org
