Caring for Every Body: Organising Towards Disability Justice

Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 8 AM - 9 AM EDT

The economy operates to create wealth and power for a select few, whilst disregarding the wellbeing and needs of the rest of us.

We know this as “rise and grind” culture, where individuals are blamed for not having access to health, food, rest and healing when it is infact a core function of the capitalist economic system.

In this hour, we be looking at:

  • The origins of this colonial mindset that, under capitalism assigns value to some people’s bodies whilst labelling others as disposable
  • Hear from disability justice organisers discussing how they are organising against this function of the economy
  • Explore the history of the disability justice movement as a vital precursor of anticapitalist organising

This conversation will include topics of colonial violence, disableism, trauma, neglect and oppression.
