Building Collaborative Partnerships in School Settings

Betty Campbell and Leanna Fox are experienced Speech Pathologists working in the disability sector with special interests in the area of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Betty currently provides whole school communication support to Fernhill School, The Ponds School and Yandelora School. Leanna works for Liberator and provides whole school communication support to William Rose School.

This presentation will detail feedback provided from educators, clinicians and school leadership teams about how therapists providing NDIS services in the school environment can work successfully within school environments, both mainstream and schools for specific purposes (SSP’s). Specific examples will be provided relating to the prescription and implementation of AAC in schools.

By the end of the session you will have increased understanding of- How to engage with schools positively- Understanding roles and responsibilities particularly around the prescription and implementation of AAC- How to build collaborative partnerships to lead to better outcomes for students

This presentation is highly relevant to Speech Pathologists working in the disability field and particularly in schools. Other allied health professionals will also benefit from this presentation as insights will be presented from school staff about how more collaborative partnerships can be built.
