About this Event
LGBTQ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have felt invisible during sexuality education classes or when someone is supporting them around the topic of sexuality. They want and need access to support and sexuality education that acknowledges and appreciates their whole selves. Speaking from personal experiences, the presenters will delve deep into issues and barriers that impact LGBTQ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and focus on knowledge and supports that are affirming and liberating to the LGBTQ community. Topics will include human rights, dating, body image, and sexual acts.
This ONLINE training (via video conference) is designed for professionals, self-advocates, and sexuality educators, to better support the LGBTQ people with intellectual and developmental disabilities they work with, care about or teach, either in a one on one or class setting.

This is a live, online training. We use Zoom, a video conference platform to deliver the training. There will be opportunity for questions and live engagement with the presenters and other participants.
Access Instructions: After you register you will get a confirmation email with instructions on how to access the training (please check your spam, AND whitelist [email protected], and [email protected] if you don't get an email). You must have a stable internet connection, a webcam, and a mic on your computer to join. We strongly recommend each attendee participate from their own computer to assure the best use of breakout groups.

Refunds
We offer refunds up to 15 days before the training. A $25 service charge will be assessed for processing refunds. All cancellations must be requested in writing (e-mails are acceptable) and must be received by November 2, 2020. No refunds will be processed after that date. All requests for refunds should state the registrant’s name and the amount of payment. We regret that we cannot offer refunds for “no shows” at the training.
Cancellation by us
We reserve the right to cancel any training due to insufficient enrollment at least 30 calendar days in advance of the scheduled course date. Notice will be provided with the option to reschedule for a future course date or to receive a full refund of registration fees.
Registrant Substitution
Substitutions for a registrant who can no longer attend can be made at any time. Please contact us and let us know who will be using the ticket.

Workshop Presenters
Pauline Bosma
Pauline Bosma founded and currently serves as Project Consultant for the Rainbow Support Group (RSG) of Massachusetts, which has been in existence since 2004. Pauline identifies as a transgender person who is labeled with an intellectual disability as well. Although Pauline works part time at a second job, her passion is her work for the RSG. Pauline spends as much time as possible working with the local RSGs and connecting people to a group. She presents on GBLT related issues at conferences and to DDS staff across the state. She also assists in starting up local Rainbow Support Groups, and trying to build interest for RSG throughout Massachusetts. Currently there are six established groups throughout the state, as well as one in Rhode Island. The Metro Boston RSG also has a Rainbow Support hotline and arranges individual meetings as requested. Pauline maintains a Facebook page for the Rainbow Support Group. Looking toward the future, Pauline would like to develop RSG marketing materials, build a web presence and continue to work with groups to grow the organization. Rainbow Support Groups of Massachusetts will be celebrating their 10th anniversary at this year’s MASS Self-Advocacy Conference on October 18. Theme: DIVERSITY!! Pauline strives to support the group’s mission to “further the opportunity for gay, transgender, lesbian and bisexual individuals with challenges to find their voice, be heard and supported”.
Oscar Hughes, M.Ed.
Oscar started his career as a special education teacher for high school students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, where he sought to create a classroom and school environment that was inclusive to trans and gender-diverse students. As a transgender person teaching biology and health classes, Oscar worked to make sure that he was providing his students with accessible and inclusive sexuality education that didn’t shy away from the true variation of human gender and sexual expression. He also advised the high school’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA), which included students with and without disabilities. Oscar is now pursuing a doctorate in special education at Boston University and is working as an adjunct trainer for Elevatus.
Katherine McLaughlin, M.Ed., CSE is a national expert and trains individuals, staff, and parents on sexuality and developmental disabilities. She teaches sexuality education to people with DD/ID as well as trains them to be peer sexuality educators themselves. Katherine is the author of an agency and school curriculum: Sexuality Education for People with Developmental Disabilities, and has developed two online courses; one to train professionals, Developmental Disability and Sexuality 101, and one for parents: Talking to Your Kids: Developmental Disabilities and Sexuality. Katherine has spent her career trying to elevate the status of all people, which is why the new name for her growing company is Elevatus Training.
