American Sign Language and Early Childhood Education
Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 9 AM - 12 PM EDT

This workshop will explore how using ASL and other sign language can benefit early childhood educators and their students. We will explore the origins and history of ASL and early Deaf education, world signed languages and myths. All of this will link into how using sign can improve communication for all children, not just the Deaf and hard of hearing, and how these skills can benefit the classroom and learning environment. There will be time for questions and thoughtful discussion as well as resources provided for further learning and use in the classroom.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will gain an understanding of the Deaf and hard of hearing community, allowing a more open relationship with their DHH students. They will have a broader understanding of sign language that allows them to successfully and meaningfully incorporate signs into their practice and they will have several baby signs under their belt to begin with as soon as they finish the workshop!
