UK Road Trip!! (continued)

Welcome back to the Audacious Aspie! Today we will look at one more resource in the UK before we move onto the Emerald island herself, Ireland! (I got that part correct, right?). Let’s welcome our new guest to the show, so that we may look objectively/condescendingly at what they have to offer. SO let the emotionally/psychologically toxic torture begin!

What makes torture fun, though, is seeing the reactions of your victims, hearing them scream and plead. Can’t get that through this, being a written-word medium and all.

Please welcome Resources For Autism! (aka RFA, think RAF but switch the A and the F, Royal Forced Air, like the royal family farting or belching). Who are they? They are a group that provides practical services (cooking, cleaning, dealing with someone from the far right) for both autistic children AND adults, as will as their families and friends. The RFA staff are “autism trained (second paragraph, does that mean they are trained to deal with autistic people or they are autistic people trained to deal with normal people?), with services designed to welcome and accept all users regardless of level need and support. They talk about their services as if they are people...hmmmm.

Will, even those of us on the spectrum have some...urges, that need quenching. Human needs aside, let's look at their at their behaviour support eh? Their behavior support has free, yes FREE, specialist behaviour support. Though I’m not sure what other kinds of support they would have, being a BEHAVIOUR service and all. Makes the “behaviour” part redundant. The site stresses that it is not a diagnostic service, but exists to “help look at positive ways of managing difficulties” (https://resourcesforautism.org.uk/about-us/), like toileting, eating difficulties, sexualized behaviour and anger. The last two might be because they had to deal with a Trump family member, or a member of the American republican party.

They would also like to stress that they do not have a magic wand (sorry Harry, your not a wizard, you're just a schmuck) but they do have a very experienced team, and they will try to point you in the direction of others who might help. “If we can't help you and/or your child, then we’ll fob you off to someone who might. That’s our guarantee”. In Fact, in some places like London and Birmingham (okay, only in London and Birmingham) they offer home visits to “assess what we might be able to suggest” (https://resourcesforautism.org.uk/about-us/) but if you live anywhere else, will...you'll have to make do with email and telephone support. Sorry.

Will, that is it for this post. I did have a christmas special, but because I missed up the time, I’ll have it ready for christmas...next year. Until than, uhh, merry christmas and a not-2017-year! (honestly, almost any year would be better than this year). Next time we’ll be going to the Emerald Isles, an exciting trip indeed. Until than this continues to be, the Audacious Aspie.
