About The Student Voice Project!

The Student Voice Project (SVP) is a 3 day Alternative Reading Week program run out of the New College Office of Student Life and Leadership (SLL) in collaboration with U of T Health and Wellness.

The SVP program partners with community health organizations, the University of Toronto mental health program staff, and students interested in talking about mental health to critically engage with issues of mental health on campus. Over the 3 day project, students will learn from mental health professionals and activists, share lived experiences, discuss mental health issues and realities on campus, and work with artists to create a written or spoken word poetry piece, a visual art piece or a zine.  Guided by Peer Facilitators and Staff Administrators, students from all three campuses will come together to learn about mental health issues facing young people and the resources available to them here on campus and across the GTA.

Several mini-groups will be given space to work in small teams to share lived experiences, and discuss successes and challenges at U of T while working towards their individual art project. All groups will come together for guest speakers, resource dissemination, larger advocacy efforts, and to celebrate program participation. With the guidance of peer facilitators students will develop a Charter Of  Campus Mental Health Goals.

This is an opportunity for your ideas to help foster understanding, open lines of communication, and build access. This is a chance for your voice to be heard! Students participating will gain skills in health research, design, as well as knowledge translation and promotion. This program will also be eligible for the co-curricular record.

This program is fully subsidized by Student Life and Leadership. Participation will be free-of-charge, and workshops will include lunches and snacks, as well as materials and supplies. A limited number of spots are available.
