2021 Virtual Annual Meeting and Magic Show

Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 7 PM EDT

We know that 2020 was a year unlike any other, but we at The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties were committed to maintaining the same quality of advocacy, education, and fun. Come join the fun and learn about the work that The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties has done on behalf of individuals with IDD in 2020.

But what would an Annual Meeting be without entertainment? Before we part ways we will be joined by a special guest, The Magic James, a full time magician specializing in sleight of hand magic! We will wrap up our meeting with a 45 minute live performance that promises to be an engaging experience for all involved!

Board Nominees for a three-year term 2021-2023

(Voting happens during registration)

  • Jill Accame – Jill has two adult sons, with the oldest being diagnosed with autism and IDD. Jill is interested in serving on the Board of Directors for The Arc of Arapahoe & Douglas to continue to advocate for individuals with disabilities, particularly on a local level. Jill can provide a wide range of viewpoints on important issues, as a parent, former school district employee, direct care staff, and as a former Human Resources Professional.
  • Terri Barnhart – Terri is the mother of a 26-year-old son with IDD and mental illness and a 25-year-old daughter who is a psych nurse. Her history as a Special Education teacher and a champion of diversity opens her to see a world of possibilities. Having served on this board in the past, Terri knows that it is a phenomenal group doing great things and would be honored to serve again.
  • Lynn Meyer – Lynn is the parent of three adult children. Her son David has Down syndrome and works at King Soopers. This will be Lynn’s second term on the Board of Directors as the Secretary, and as our representative on The Arc of Colorado’s board. Lynn is a retired attorney but continues to provide her time and talents teaching in the Cherry Creek School District. With her background as an attorney, middle school teacher and the mother of children with special needs, Lynn would like to continue to help guide The Arc and assure that it provides for the needs of its constituents in the most efficient and effective ways.
  • Shukri Muwwakkil – While completing his masters at the University of Denver, he realized the importance of providing support and tools for empowerment of those within his community and underserved populations. Shukri is a Clinical Social Worker and a victim advocate and has implemented those skills while working at the Denver Police Department, Denver City Attorney, Gateway Battered Women’s Shelter, Denver Juvenile Probation, Denver Public Schools and is currently with the United States Air Force. Shukri is excited to put his skills and experience to good use as a board member for The Arc Arapahoe & Douglas Counties.
  • Helene Schmidt – Helene is the parent of three adult children. Her middle son was diagnosed with global disabilities and is in his third year at UNC-GOAL. This will be Helene’s second term on the Board of Directors, and she looks forward to continuing to support The Arc’s mission while providing guidance for succession planning. She believes that children and adults with IDD and their families should have access to resources and pathways to ensure an inclusive, productive, and rewarding role in the community.

We work to be a reflection of you - our constituents. We look forward to seeing you at our annual meeting to hear your ideas. Everyone is welcome, however an RSVP is required.
