Talk Title: Promoting Inclusion, Socialization, and Friendships for School-Aged Children: From Playdates at Home to Peer Supports at School

Speaker Bio: Dr. Gregory Lyons has been invested in the education and treatment of children and adolescents with developmental disabilities for over 18 years. As a high school student, he was involved in peer inclusion programs, Special Olympics, and camps for individuals with disabilities. Gregory then trained for six years with Drs. Lynn and Robert Koegel and earned his BA/MA in psychology and education at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He continued his doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, contributing to multiple intervention research labs at the Waisman Center, including the Peer Partner Project with Drs. Erik Carter and Jenny Asmus. As a Doctoral Level Board Certified Behavior Analyst, he specializes in inclusive practices, naturalistic early intervention, pivotal response treatment, parent education/coaching, and positive behavior support. Dr. Lyons has over 10 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented research and trainings at the local, regional, and national levels. At the UCSF STAR Center for ASD and Neurodevelopmental Disabilities, Gregory studies individualized intervention models, school-based socialization / inclusion, and parent-mediated interventions for children and adolescents with ASD and neurodevelopmental disabilities.
