Behavioral Perspective to Addressing Anxiety when Providing Support to Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (Rockford, IL)
Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 1 PM - 3 PM CST

Presented by ICPN Clinicians; Brian Morgan, BCBA & Mike Jersey, LPC

Studies reveal that in the general population, Anxiety Disorders may be as prevalent as 18.1%. Anxiety Disorders have been well documented in the Intellectual Disability (ID) population and studies estimate that these disorders may even be more prevalent in persons with intellectual disabilities (DM-ID-V2).

A common misconception held by many may be that the only way to treat Anxiety Disorders is through the use of pharmaceuticals. This presentation will not only provide an overview regarding the signs and symptoms of Generalized Anxiety Disorder when supporting persons with intellectual disabilities but more importantly, we will discuss how caregivers may apply behavior analytic principles to improve the quality of life for people experiencing these signs and symptoms.
