It can be challenging to support adults and children with intellectual disabilities who engage in self-injurious behaviors. Whether the self-harm is expressed through biting, hitting, banging, picking, or other behaviors, we must work as a team to develop and implement strategies that will ensure the safety and well-being of the person.  Join ICPN clinicians as we provide an overview and definitions of SIB and relevant research. We will promote an understanding of the potential reasons for SIB and propose treatment strategies that may reduce the severity and frequency of this challenging behavior.
