Overdose Awareness Day- Winnipeg Event
Friday, August 30, 2019 at 10 AM - 12 PM EDT

"The world is failing to protect the health and human rights of people who use drugs" -UNAIDS

In Winnipeg the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network is marking Overdose Awareness Day by representing each of the 4460 people we lost in Canada in 2018 with and installation of hearts on the sidewalk at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Each of these people were important and loved.

We are drawing attention to the criminalization, stigma and marginalization that is driving the overdose crisis. We are advocating for a people-centered and human rights based approach to drug use. We all love someone who uses drugs.

And we need your help!
Come help us stencil 4460 hearts on the sidewalk, and/or participate in an overdose prevention training to help save lives.

Meet at the group entrance at the Canadian Museum of Human Rights.

Schedule:
10:00 am- Welcome, prayer and song
10:00am-11:00am- Marking hearts
Once the hearts are complete we will have a moment of silence.
11:00-12:00- Individual and small group overdose prevention training

We will be outside in a generally physically accessible area.
Bathrooms and water fountains are available inside the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

This event is part of a larger provincial campaign. Check out our other Manitoba Harm Reduction Network sites for events happening for Overdose Awareness Day near you! If you would like to receive an event planning kit, please email us at [email protected]

"Any approach to drugs has to be based on protecting health and human rights. It's not about combating drug misuse- it is about respecting people as human beings." -Naomi Burke
