International Overdose Awareness Day - Cedar Rapids
Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 12 PM - 4:30 PM CDT

Join IHRC, IHH, people who use drugs, and the family and friends of drug users from around Eastern Iowa for the annual day of remembrance for those we have lost.

Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition (IHRC) is pleased to host its annual International Overdose Awareness Day event in order to remember the lives of those we have lost to overdose. IHRC is delighted to partner with I Hate Heroin / I Have Hope Dubuque (IHH) for this year’s event. The event will feature a free community picnic beginning at 12:00pm, and a program of speakers from 1:00pm - 2:30pm. Speakers will include people who have personally experienced opioid overdose; parents, siblings, children, friends, spouses, and lovers of people who have died due to overdose; and elected officials. The event will also feature naloxone training and free naloxone; awards for individuals who have reversed overdoses; tours of IHRC's office & services; free professional portraits; storytelling; short film screening and art exhibit; opportunities to advocate for policy solutions to the overdose crisis. All are welcome to contribute photos and other items to the event memorial altar in memory of those our community has lost to overdose.
